		<description>New ways to browse designer brands on Farfetch

After the redesign of our ‘Designers Hub’ where we introduced the ability to see, navigate to and (un)favourite ‘Designers’ we looked at ways of improving how customers could browse their most beloved brands in our app. Customer insights helped us understand which paths we could take to level up the experience in multiple key touch points in our users’ journeys.

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/9f1d199e98a1a3fafb1294e6968993e089964dacf0c0f718d603ee8b402d9778/Brand-Nav-C.png" data-mid="101662686" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/9f1d199e98a1a3fafb1294e6968993e089964dacf0c0f718d603ee8b402d9778/Brand-Nav-C.png" /&#62;

Problems and opportunities

Global Search only displays auto suggestions for ‘Designers’ and ‘Categories’. Leading users to believe the only way to get to a specific search results is to use filter options on product listing pages.There is no way of selecting multiple designers from our Designer A-Z which creates a lot of back and forth when a user wants to explore multiple brands at once. This is a particularly apparent issue during sale season.No way of filtering a listing page of products by a user’s favourite designers.Zooming in on Search
Search is a very popular feature in the Farfetch app. Farfetch has over 1400 designer brands on its marketplace and on any given day a cumulative number of of 400K+ unique pieces are available for purchase. Finding what you’re looking for can be quite daunting. Our search logic was in need of an update so that it could support more ways of helping users find what they are looking for.
&#60;img width="1306" height="846" width_o="1306" height_o="846" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/4fcbb0f6f9ab774484d1bfee400b7baf5330b09bb65ee7a6c9532c590baae6fa/Suggestions-SM.gif" data-mid="101880613" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/4fcbb0f6f9ab774484d1bfee400b7baf5330b09bb65ee7a6c9532c590baae6fa/Suggestions-SM.gif" /&#62;
Search suggestions before (left) and after (right)
The old behaviour only allowed for ‘Designers’ (E.g. ‘Gucci’) and ‘Categories’ (E.g. ‘Coats’) to appear as an auto suggestion when a user is typing. We set out a roadmap to incrementally allow for more types of suggestions to appear that would improve the search experience. First in line was introducing the combination of Designers + Categories + Keywords as suggestions (E.g. ‘Gucci Shoes’ or ‘Balenciaga Triple S’). Using our search query data logs we ranked the suggestions based on popularity in the previous two weeks. This period was defined as to also be able to capture seasonal trends.

The AB test is currently running and results will be shared when they become available. An iteration we are aiming for is to include sales data as a parameter of defining the ranked order of suggestions.

Filtering by Favourites
Allowing users to filter by their favourite designers was next. This feature already proved to be successful when another team tested this on our website with a small group of loyalty programme customers. On the app we knew this had potential to be even more successful as our most highly engaged customers primarily use the app to browse Farfetch. They also have a higher number of favourite designer brands on average.

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/079cec063d91df1c5e8a550f3c289b680c8b84ae9027015d25274d28a90676bb/Fav-Brands.png" data-mid="101778531" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/079cec063d91df1c5e8a550f3c289b680c8b84ae9027015d25274d28a90676bb/Fav-Brands.png" /&#62;
Filtering by Favourite brands

	We took advantage of our ‘Quick Filter’ feature where we introduced the option to quickly select the filter on a listing page with a single tap and also implemented it in our ‘Refine’ screen.

The AB test is currently running and results will be shared when they become available. A future iteration could probably include an easier way to see a distinction between all brands and a user’s list of favourite brands in the same list.

Setting a new standard for Designer A-Z browsing

When researching the competitor landscape we found that almost none of the apps in luxury fashion allow for users to see a listing page of multiple designers of a user’s own choice outside of filtering options. We knew from our own qualitative insights that users desired a feature where they could start their browsing journey with a selection of (favourite) designer brands of their own choosing.

&#60;img width="1200" height="784" width_o="1200" height_o="784" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/fa77d9558191eeda6b1b5279ff41ca23a06b8db33653b852da7ba629626502e8/Multiple-C.gif" data-mid="101782652" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/fa77d9558191eeda6b1b5279ff41ca23a06b8db33653b852da7ba629626502e8/Multiple-C.gif" /&#62;Before (left) and after (right)
Seeing products from multiple brands used to mean a lot of back and forth between a list of all brands and their respective product listing pages. We introduced a pattern where users now can select one or more brands they want to see products from. This pattern is similar to the one used in ‘Refine’ where users could already select multiple designer brands which meant we introduced more parity across the two touch points.&#38;nbsp;

The AB test is currently running and results will be shared when they become available. As a next step we want to even further create parity between the two screens in ‘Designers A-Z’ and ‘Refine’ and improve how users see their favourite brands in these screens.
ReflectionAlthough the touch points for these three projects mostly sit in different parts of our users’ journeys they all are part of a bigger piece of work around brand navigation across the Farfetch app. What makes it tricky is that multiple teams are involved or oversee the various areas we wanted to introduce improvements. Having a clear strategy on a higher level helped us collaborate on all of the various initiatives and, overall, led us to create a coherent experience across multiple features.

		<description>Self-billing for everyone

From entering a timesheet to raising invoices and paying suppliers, we’ve made sure everyone in the supply chain could get paid through Engage and knew when, why and how much they could expect.

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/49bc0334c169f80def56c005ae068fc72c6c1209f6e322f6f6dccccf4e69d587/Worker-invoices--Mobile.png" data-mid="46546136" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/49bc0334c169f80def56c005ae068fc72c6c1209f6e322f6f6dccccf4e69d587/Worker-invoices--Mobile.png" /&#62;
Mission

One of our missions at Engage is ‘Introduce trust and transparency in the recruitment supply chain and make sure everyone gets paid on time.’ For people outside of this industry that seems pretty obvious. But the industry is complex and there are a lot of moving parts. People need to work hard to earn trust. This impacts how and when people get paid dramatically. Especially for temp workers not getting paid on time could mean not having a roof above your head the following week.

Problems to solve
There can be up to five different stakeholders involved in making sure a temp worker is placed for a job. How do you make sure all of them have access to the data they need in order to keep processes moving and not block payments?Some of these processes happen offline and are captured in file types sent across via email or discussed over a phone callWhen processes are managed digitally different stakeholders could be using different software which may not communicate well with each otherCompanies that are responsible for paying temp workers will sometimes only pay the worker once the invoice to their client has been paid.If there is a hiccup within the process of getting someone’s work for a period authorised it slows down the entire process and people will either not be paid (on time) or need to be paid out of pocket which can have a major negative impact on cash flow.&#38;nbsp;
Timesheets to invoicing
Engage modelled self-billing agreements between recruitment agencies and their clients. This meant whenever a timesheet with the time worked by the worker for a specific period was approved, an invoice would automatically be issued to the client on behalf of the agency. In the past these timesheets would have, more often than not, be handled offline on paper or in a spreadsheet. We introduced a solution where both workers and recruitment consultants could enter timesheets. We saw a significant increase of timesheets being submitted on time, speeding up payment processes along the way.
&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/f2cc5df5e04a76364942354550bf3a674566b3e42ec4c20284f367b38e1a57c3/Submitting-a-ts.png" data-mid="46546152" border="0" data-scale="100" alt="Getting a timesheet submitted and approved" data-caption="Getting a timesheet submitted and approved" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/f2cc5df5e04a76364942354550bf3a674566b3e42ec4c20284f367b38e1a57c3/Submitting-a-ts.png" /&#62;
Submitting a timesheet
Divorcing expenses from timesheets
There was however an issue with the way we handled timesheets. If expenses were incurred during a timesheet period that needed to be reimbursed we captured those expenses on the same timesheet we captured the time worked. In order for clients to approve an expense item they need to see proof however, a receipt, for that expense. We saw that timesheets were being approved with expenses that had no receipts as proof. When the invoice would be handled by the finance department at the client they would go back to the agency and decline to pay that invoice because of lack of proof. This meant the agency didn’t get paid on time and the worker needed to be paid out of pocket.
&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/7e5e16451f62c3a26c99b5a6c82894f655ff2099501c51985b055077fe11e537/Worker-Expenses--Mobile.png" data-mid="46546176" border="0" alt="Submitting an expense independent of a timesheet" data-caption="Submitting an expense independent of a timesheet" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/7e5e16451f62c3a26c99b5a6c82894f655ff2099501c51985b055077fe11e537/Worker-Expenses--Mobile.png" /&#62;
Submitting an expense

	We spoke to workers and agencies to understand what was needed to solve this issue. Clients elaborated that missing receipts for expenses were the primary reason invoices couldn’t be paid. This meant the timesheet itself could be paid if it weren’t for the faulty expense being on there. With this information we prototyped a solution where we separated the approval flow of timesheets from expenses. This meant workers could submit expenses independent from their time worked and clients could approve them independently as well.
During the process we reached out to users to validate if this solution would work for them. We gained some valuable input from those sessions (‘if expenses should be approved separately this means that could mean more work for me’) and added some additional features, like a daily digest email for all timesheets and expenses awaiting approval, that would help the workflow.

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/bcea3e895359c9464be6588bb39dc715b8bcd06e3b7538c632c560ff414e8361/Worker-expenses-tablet.png" data-mid="46546205" border="0" alt="Viewing a submitted expense" data-caption="Viewing a submitted expense" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/bcea3e895359c9464be6588bb39dc715b8bcd06e3b7538c632c560ff414e8361/Worker-expenses-tablet.png" /&#62;
Viewing an expense
After the feature was released we saw a dramatic decline in timesheets being rejected and invoices that couldn’t be paid.

Self billing for contractors and umbrella businesses
When we launched the new SaaS solution for agencies&#38;nbsp; - Read the case here&#38;nbsp;︎ -&#38;nbsp; we interviewed a large number of recruitment agency users. Amongst other things they identified that having all data for their contractors on a single software solution would fit their needs the most. This meant that they were looking for a way to not only manage timesheets and billing for their clients on the platform, but they also were keen to have a self-billing solution for their suppliers (e.g. contractors being paid through their own business or umbrella companies that supply temp workers).

We set out to achieve just that. We could leverage a lot from the work we had already done around self-billing for agencies. We talked to contractors to understand their needs for a self-bill solution. Contractors saw a lot of value in managing their timesheets and their invoices on a single platform. Their biggest concern was around getting the invoices out of the system for accounting purposes and making sure they could see which invoice were paid for a received payment.
&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/a77dae461a4c487c8d328a6f0e127035f63f15098485fa49ae61241f0ade18b9/WorkerPayments-Desktopmobile.png" data-mid="46546212" border="0" alt="Contractors keeping track of their received payments" data-caption="Contractors keeping track of their received payments" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/a77dae461a4c487c8d328a6f0e127035f63f15098485fa49ae61241f0ade18b9/WorkerPayments-Desktopmobile.png" /&#62;Payments list view and detail page

When talking to agencies however we saw we couldn’t just replicate the existing behaviour we had around raising an invoice (timesheet approval == invoice generation). They were expecting to select which invoices they wanted to raise and also create a payment directly. They also mentioned that not all of their suppliers had a self-bill agreement in place.
Making agencies’ lives&#38;nbsp; easierWe introduced the feature of generating invoices manually from approved timesheets where they could raise invoices in a bulk action and de-select the timesheets they didn’t wish to invoice just yet. From here they could also directly choose to create a payment which meant it would speed up their workflow dramatically. Most small agencies work with accounting packages or other financing software, but have great trouble of getting the right data into them. They told us it was a very manual process which involved a mix of on- and offline tools to get to a payment. We connected a lot of the dots for agencies which meant they could spend more time in sourcing the right candidates and grow their business.

Not wanting to raise an invoice?Now that we had the ability to raise invoices between agencies and their suppliers we wanted to solve another issue our users had identified. One that is present in a lot of similar timesheet solutions tools. What happens when a worker can’t work for a certain period? A timesheet still needs to be generated since it is part of their contract period. In the past, workers (or recruitment consultants on their behalf) would save or submit a so called ‘zero-value timesheet’ which is exactly the same as how it sounds. However, this raised concerns for clients who were approving. They weren’t always aware of a worker being away and in some cases would unknowingly approve a timesheet which would raise an invoice without an amount.
&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/0ce379a454821fe0131be5fc4a288d6391e2ba1f812c49c58e76dc468e9eef3e/Absent-timesheets.png" data-mid="46546222" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/0ce379a454821fe0131be5fc4a288d6391e2ba1f812c49c58e76dc468e9eef3e/Absent-timesheets.png" /&#62;
Saving a timesheet as ‘absent’

We introduced a way of identifying if the worker was away for a period. Workers now had the option to let agencies and clients know they were away for a period. This could also be done by the recruitment consultant on behalf of the worker and they could even schedule an absence in advance if it would be for multiple timesheet periods. Timesheets with this new status of ‘Absent’ would never result in an invoice since there was no need to approve and workers would not be reminded to submit a timesheet for a period when they were away.

ReflectionIn connecting our expertise from earlier development work and talking to users from every part of the supply chain we identified a solution that would help connect the different parts of the supply chain in a transparent and helpful way. We managed to speed up, or sometimes replace, workflows that were tedious and were costly from a time perspective. We also realised our solution wouldn’t cater to everyone. With that new knowledge we understood that we needed to focus on optimising the solution we had so that it could be the best it could be and not look at solving all the problems at once.

Plek has native apps for iOS and Android and when more users primarily used Plek on the go we knew we had to introduce more feature parity between the mobile and desktop versions. This resulted in optimizations and newly shipped features.&#38;nbsp;

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/3030aa187e8eb65d48a508c973fd0fe4c6dae7291df0c52fd962d55c53f74315/Plek-Filter.jpg" data-mid="15170233" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/3030aa187e8eb65d48a508c973fd0fe4c6dae7291df0c52fd962d55c53f74315/Plek-Filter.jpg" /&#62;Filtering results in the app
	Filter and search
Search and filtering results have always been a big focus for Plek. After global search was implemented we introduced the ability to search and filter directly within a feature like groups or documents. Users can filter on taxonomy and quickly find what they are looking for. We also introduced a dropdown from the main navigation where users could quickly navigate to other parts of the section they were in.

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/6f1867bf66733d841743a57e5bdecff33d0ed9d1eb5d28cd1ed62f5790b3ee66/App-group-filter.png" data-mid="15170234" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/6f1867bf66733d841743a57e5bdecff33d0ed9d1eb5d28cd1ed62f5790b3ee66/App-group-filter.png" /&#62;

New featuresSome new features started out on the app and were later applied on desktop. Pinned posts on the home screen solved an issue that content managers had when wanting to highlight important information to users. Birthdays and Tasks are two features that are also important for Plek users who are mostly on the go. Now, they never miss a birthday and can keep track on tasks wherever they go.

As lead product designer I help oversee the design and engineering team before, during and after each release as well as design user flows and UX/UI and develop business rules. All with a team goal of building a great product and experience end to end.&#38;nbsp;

The aim is always to keep things simple whilst creating an experience and environment where information security is very important. The biggest challenge is to balance&#38;nbsp; complex business rules with ease of use and presentation of personalised content.&#38;nbsp;
&#60;img width="2560" height="1600" width_o="2560" height_o="1600" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/823ff513a8d8d0d0d266dd808ad19ca66463ccb0897d23d5f24ab958dd4b9ccd/Document-Flow.png" data-mid="15169407" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/823ff513a8d8d0d0d266dd808ad19ca66463ccb0897d23d5f24ab958dd4b9ccd/Document-Flow.png" /&#62;

Plek saw some major optimizations and redesigns of existing features. ‘Documents’ is one of the areas&#38;nbsp; the team worked on during multiple releases. This resulted in a strong core component of the product. Uploading and sharing documents became faster, easier and more seamless, document versioning was introduced and integration with Office 365 and Google Drive was achieved.

	Security is one of the major focusses for Plek. In addition to the already existing strong information security an extra level was introduced in the form of two factor verification, a unique take on end-to-end encryption (Users can access earlier encrypted end-to-end chat messages by verifying themselves via another device where they are logged in) and a temporary upgrade for admins when wanting to perform certain actions on the platform.

Redesign for leading contemporary photography platform

Previously Unseen Amsterdam’s website focussed heavily on their annual event in september. Most users were unaware of their work throughout the rest of the year. My task was guiding the project team&#38;nbsp; to combine all Unseen’s work in a redesigned platform.

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/be690788f926ddc8502b8f16bd459657c0cf4e9e244b74b874c07e1dc7e950e0/Unseen--News.jpg" data-mid="8608660" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/be690788f926ddc8502b8f16bd459657c0cf4e9e244b74b874c07e1dc7e950e0/Unseen--News.jpg" /&#62;

	GoalMerge the festival experience of Unseen Amsterdam and their corporate story in a redesign of their current website.

	Objectives

Improve navigationImprove visual design and online brand identityCreate overview of Unseen Amsterdam’s&#38;nbsp; workDrive sales of festival ticketsEngage visitors with festival through online activation

	&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/59d6dc0919710694b04906442853b9513e89421bb6725b471a6f9c16101815ab/Unseen--Tablet.jpg" data-mid="11640461" border="0" data-scale="93" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/59d6dc0919710694b04906442853b9513e89421bb6725b471a6f9c16101815ab/Unseen--Tablet.jpg" /&#62;

	We started with some quick wins with new header styles, use of grids and being more consistent with how components looked on the platform. The main navigation was an obvious first big issue the team tackled. Working together with visual designers from agency VandeJong and in close collaboration with the client a new site plan, information hierarchy and redesign for the website navigation were born. It focusses heavily on ease of use and a clearer distinction between the event and Unseen as a company. A button for tickets was also immediately implemented in the redesign to help PR and sales reach their targets.

&#60;img width="2000" height="1300" width_o="2000" height_o="1300" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/b3c3647b60522b78831fd795f175a5881666ecaa0d4c7f7b4a2878fb7264d0ce/Unseen--Mobile.jpg" data-mid="8609351" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/b3c3647b60522b78831fd795f175a5881666ecaa0d4c7f7b4a2878fb7264d0ce/Unseen--Mobile.jpg" /&#62;

Throughout the years Unseen has created a good reputation with photographers and galleries alike. We felt the need for a complete overview of photographers, galleries and other participants of Unseen’s five prior festivals. We created an archive where the user can easily navigate through the different categories and filter accordingly.

With this we gave Unseen’s hard work it’s well deserved stage. Lastly a custom voting tool was created where users could vote for 1 of 5 photographers, each nominated for the Unseen talent award to engage users more with the brand.
